Protect your _________________.

Protect your    Beliefs   .

Phoolan Devi

This is a photograph of Phoolan Devi (a.k.a. The Bandit Queen). What I connotated from this portrait of her was the irrelevance of her young face and the bandit wearing she has on- the bullets, weapon and the thick bandana. Despite her youth, her world has dressed her up that way. Even though she earns the name Bandit Queen, she was to put on the heavy band of bullets around her chest to symbolize her insecurity and also as a form of a shield for her heart. After so much horrifying experience in her life I don’t think it was a choice for her to hold a rifle and to dress like a man in her male domesticated environment. And yet all the things she did were not only for women’s rights but also for the rightful governance for the people in her country. It is hard to imagine how over weighted the bullets may have been for her small shoulders but had no choice but to wear them to protect her outstanding beliefs. Even today, it is a law at most countries to be giving the same weight of rights to women, however, there is a hidden power overdrawing this matter at times, as Feminism is still a topic questioned and discussed as an issue not history and as this may be an old saying but is not “yet” outdated- “Breaking through the glass ceiling”.
